Project Updates
Electrical work:
All street light poles are installed and connected to PEPCO's permanent power. All the remaining temporary light poles are scheduled to be taken out during the third week of August 2010. All the permanent traffic signal lights scheduled for upgrades have been installed at New Hampshire Avenue, Q Street, P Street, and Massachusetts Avenue intersections. PEPCO is scheduled to energize these traffic signal lights during the fourth week of August. Right now all the intersections signal lights are placed on temporary poles until permanent ones are configured and installed.
Granite Curbs, Copings, and Gutter: All granite curbs and brick gutters are completed. All the specified concrete copings within the project limits are completed.
Public alleys:
All public alleys and driveways are completed.
Concrete Sidewalk and Pavers: The Contractor has completed all concrete and brick sidewalks. The project management team has issued a punch list identifying all unresolved construction deficiencies in the project. The Contractor has started to correct all issues in the project since August 9, 2010.
Storm/Sewer Modification:
The Contractor has completed all the storm/sewer system upgrade in the project.
Fire Hydrant Upgrade:
The project requires the existing fire hydrants to be upgraded to a traffic type fire hydrant. Accordingly, the Contractor has completed all fire hydrant modification work.
Asphalt & milling:
The Contractor milled the entire pavement area. All deteriorated concrete bases were taken out and replaced with new concrete bases. The entire street was paved with two inches of asphalt.
Line stripping & Signs:
All vehicle and bicycle lane markings are completed. All permanent signs between New Hampshire Avenue and P Streets are completed.
Fences:
The Contractor has installed 95% of all miscellaneous fences in the project. All tree fences are installed and completed.
Achieving Substantial Completion
Civil work remaining:
- Installation of multi-space meters
- Complete installation of all traffic light and accessories
- Installation of bike racks
- Planting trees bushes and shrubs
- Complete all construction defects, punch list
Electrical work remaining
- Removal of existing street light
Communication and Traffic Signal lights work
- Removal of traffic controller cabinet (depending on PEPCO’s availability to disconnect power)
- Installation of the remaining two new traffic control cabinets (depending on PEPCO’s availability to provide power)
- New power service connections for new signal lights (depending on PEPCO’s availability to provide power)
- Completion of pulling cables on 17th Streetbetween Massachusetts Avenueand M Street Completion of pulling cables on New Hampshire Avenue between U Street and 17th Street NW
Phasing Plan for Next Month
The 17th Street Streetscape Project is in Phase IV, the final phase, allowing the Contractor to perform work on the entire 17th Street corridor.
Projected work for the next two weeks (August 16th to September 3rd)
· Installation Multi-space meters
· Installation of tree fence and picket fences
· Installation of bike rack and blue stone
Final Phasing Plan
Contractor will be working on the remaining punchlist items, supporting PEPCO as needed with installation of street lights and electrical service.
