Other than safety, communication is a very important component of DDOT project management strategy. In order to effectively manage this project, we have maintained open communication with all stakeholders, especially with the DuPont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 2B). We have continued to address issues, complaints and or concerns raised by residents and business owners. The following topics were presented to DDOT by the ANC and were addressed:

Fencing around the tree boxes needed adjusting to prevent damage to car doors:

To address this issue the Contractor adjusted all tree fences so that the required 14 inches from the face of the curb are met.

Pooling of water at Church Street:

The contractors cleaned the catch basins and connect pipes at 17th and Church Street to improve drainage issue.

Fencing in front of Admiral DuPont is high and narrows the sidewalk:

In an effort to improve pedestrian safety the height of the fence is appropriate because there is a two foot

drop between the Yoga Place and Safeway.

Inadequate lighting:

During the transition phase from temporary to permanent street lights the number of poles illuminating was considerably low for two nights on 17th Street. This issue was solved once the permanent street lights were energized by PEPCO.

ANC 2B Monthly Meeting. Victor Egu, DDOT, provided an overview of the 17th St. Streetscape Project.
